November 8, 2026 – Decatur firefighters recently participated in specialized emergency response training with Ameren Illinois focused on electrical and natural gas hazards.
The SAFE, or Situational Awareness Focused Energy, training was held November 2nd through 4th at the Ameren Illinois Decatur Training Center.
The hands-on program was designed to help firefighters recognize potential utility hazards, safely manage emergency scenes involving electrical and gas infrastructure, and coordinate with Ameren crews during emergencies.
Utility-related hazards can add complexity to emergency situations. The training focused on improving awareness and coordination to help protect first responders, utility personnel and the public.
