September 11, 2021 –  Today at the 9/11 Memorial at Lake Decatur, People gathered to remember the events and those that served during the September 11th attacks on America.

Speakers included Elder Marty Watkins, George Frank of the Veterans Recognition of Central Illinois, and a speech from U.S. Marine Afghanistan veteran Corey Kistner.

In his speech, Corey Kistner reflected upon his memories of September 11th and the importance of remembrance for every American. “September 11, 2001, started like any other day for every American. But shortly by the end of that morning, the life of every American would change in an instant. That day the United States of America truly became united as one family… If you’re standing here right now, it means you have not forgotten. So today, if you haven’t already, I recommend you call your mom, call your dad, call everyone that is important to you in your life, and remind them that you love them and will not forget them. Teach our young people what today means to you.” he said.
