Millikin tennis coach, Alex Covington, discussed the women’s tennis team’s historic season.

The Big Blue finished the regular season in second place in the overall standings, and placed third in the CCIW Tournament.

To go along with a second place finish in regular season play, the team also added several accolades. Two players were named all-conference. Freshman Emily Markus and sophomore Nikol Obradovic. Markus finished 8-0 in singles in conference play, thus earning her Newcomer of the Year. Freshman Chloe Sabin broke the 36-year old record for consecutive singles matches won, with 11.

With a 10-1 overall record during the fall season, Covington surpassed the previous coach, Dustin Forman, as the winningest coach in Millikin women’s tennis history.

The women’s team is in a good place, as the Big Blue head into the spring season. The team will be returning all of its’ singles players and all but one doubles player.

The third place finish in the CCIW Tournament earned the Big Blue the #3 seed in the Automatic Qualifier Tournament. Millikin will compete against other CCIW teams for a chance to play in the NCAA Tournament.
