December 1, 2021 – Today at The Salvation Army, Representative Dan Caulkins presented a check for $5,000 to the organization for the Christmas season.

“We’ve been supporters of the mission of The Salvation Army for many years, long before Kyle decided to come to work here but he’s been a spark that’s really turned this organization into what it is today,” said Caulkins

Next Tuesday, Representative Caulkins will be bell ringing for The Salvation Army at Kroger East on Route 36 from 12-2 pm. The Caulkins family will be matching any donations they receive during their bell ringing.

When asked why he felt the need to make the donation, Caulkins said, “We feel it’s very important to support the mission of The Salvation Army here in Decatur. They do a phenomenal job. They help homeless people, they help veterans, they help people with their power bills, and this was the right time and the right opportunity to make our annual donation.:

Lt. Kenesa Debela and Kyle Karsten also addressed the recent controversy regarding the Salvation Army and its effect on local programs. “That has not impacted donations here in Decatur. Again, we are focused and doing the most good for the citizens in Decatur and I have not seen anything dip in our donations thus far,” said Debela.
