April 26, 2022 – DPS junior high students were invited to Richland Community College today for Healthcare Career Days, a career exposure event hosted by healthcare agencies in Macon County. The event was broken up into three components: lab tours, student-employer engagement, and video presentations.

The event was planned to introduce the many healthcare careers to students at Decatur Public Schools.

“It’s really a chance to get kids to start thinking about career pathways and what they might like to do,” said Rocki Wilkerson, Executive Director of Workforce Investment Solutions. “The earlier you start thinking about what you’d like to do and begin getting experience, the sooner you begin to figure out the pathways and subjects you need to have success in in order to excel in that career path.”

“It’s so important for us to partner with Richland and our other community partners,” said Ashley Grayned, Executive Director of Innovative Programs and Strategic Planning for DPS. “We want to, as a district, allow our students the opportunity to grow and develop post-graduation. We don’t want our students to just thrive while they are in high school. We want to get them prepared for college or workforce opportunities. It’s critical that we have these partnerships within the community because of the opportunities that are available.”

Richland will host Healthcare Career Days for high school students on Thursday from 10 am – 12:30 pm.
