January 26, 2023 – The Decatur Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a Business Breakfast on Wednesday, February 8, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Decatur Club on West Prairie Avenue. Doors open at 7:00 a.m.
The central topic of the breakfast will be the SAFE-T Act. Guest speakers Brad Allen, Deputy Chief of Police, and Scott Rueter, State’s Attorney, will speak on the trending issue.
Signed into law on February 22, 2021, the SAFE-T Act incorporated a number of proposed reforms in police training, rules, and oversight, pretrial court processes, sentencing, and corrections. The bill incorporated two prior legislative proposals: the Pretrial Fairness Act and a police certification reform proposal. The SAFE-T Act also includes reforms concerning the rights of prisoners and other detainees, as well as amendments to the Crime Victims Compensation Act.
