February 1, 2022 – With an impending ice and snow storm, travel can become not just a pain, but dangerous. Here are some ways to mitigate your risks if you have to get out and travel during dangerous weather.
Travel precautions:
- Listen for travel advisories issued by radio or tv reports.
- Avoid travel if there is low visibility.
- Avoid traveling on ice-covered roads, overpasses, and bridges if possible.
- If you must travel by car, make sure to take your cell phone with you.
- If you have to travel, let someone know your destination and estimated arrival time before you leave.
- Check your gas, radiator, oil level, and other basic necessities of your car.
- DO NOT pour water on your windshield to remove ice or snow.
- DO NOT rely on just a car to provide sufficient heat – the car may break down – always carry additional warm clothing or blankets.
