July 7, 2026 – Heartland CASA is expanding volunteer training opportunities this summer and fall in an effort to recruit more advocates for children involved in the foster care system.

The organization says 256 children across Macon, Christian, DeWitt and Moultrie counties are currently waiting for a Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA volunteer.

As part of the expanded schedule, Kemmerer Village will co-host two training sessions on its Assumption campus, providing an additional location for prospective volunteers. Heartland CASA will also continue offering classes at its Decatur office.

Participants can attend training either in person or virtually through Zoom. Four training sessions are scheduled between late July and October, including daytime and evening options.

CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to advocate for the best interests of children who have experienced abuse or neglect and are involved in the foster care system. Volunteers gather information, build relationships with children and others involved in their lives, and make recommendations to the court. They do not provide foster care or bring children into their homes.

Heartland CASA provides comprehensive training and ongoing support, and no special education or professional background is required.

Training begins July 27. Those interested in volunteering or learning more can contact Heartland CASA at (217) 428-8424 or visit iheartcasa.org.
