September 29, 2026 – Girl Scouts of Central Illinois will host its 19th annual Lead Like a Girl celebration on Wednesday, October 21st at 6 p.m. at the Country Club of Decatur.
Formerly known as Diamonds & Desserts, the annual event recognizes an outstanding woman in the Decatur and Macon County community for her leadership and service. This year’s Diamond honoree is Shelith Hansbro, an Illinois Department of Corrections executive who is being recognized as a proven leader and an example for Girl Scouts to model.
Hansbro has more than 20 years of experience with the Illinois Department of Corrections and previously served as Warden and Chief Administrative Officer of the Decatur Correctional Center. She holds a master’s degree in Public Affairs from the University of Illinois Springfield and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Northern Illinois University.
Following the formal presentation of the Diamond honor, Hansbro will participate in a conversation with local Girl Scouts.
The evening will also feature heavy appetizers, a Girl Scout Cookie-inspired dessert competition, a signature drink and cash bar, along with an opportunity to learn more about the impact of Girl Scouting in Macon County.
Nearly 160 girls participate in 12 Girl Scout troops throughout Decatur and Macon County. According to Girl Scouts of Central Illinois, 83% of participating Macon County Girl Scouts reported a strong sense of self after a year in the program, while 80% reported positive values. Nearly $15,000 in membership assistance was also awarded to local Girl Scouts this year to help ensure financial circumstances don’t prevent girls from participating.
Lead Like a Girl is open to the public. There is no admission charge, although attendees will have an opportunity to support local Girl Scout programs.
