Lead Like A Girl – Honoring Shelith Hansbro

By Lindsay Romano Oct 6, 2026 | 7:15 AM

Get ready for an inspiring evening celebrating leadership, service and the incredible impact women can make in their communities.

The Girl Scouts of Central Illinois invite you to the 19th annual Lead Like a Girl celebration on Wednesday, October 21st at 6 p.m. at the Country Club of Decatur.

Formerly known as Diamonds & Desserts, this special evening shines a spotlight on an exceptional woman who leads by example. This year’s Diamond Honoree is Shelith Hansbro, an accomplished Illinois Department of Corrections executive and proven leader whose career and commitment to service make her an inspiring role model for the next generation.

Following the presentation of the Diamond honor, Shelith will sit down with local Girl Scouts for a special conversation about leadership, career and the importance of making a difference.

And there’s plenty to enjoy throughout the evening — including heavy appetizers, a Girl Scout Cookie-inspired dessert competition, a signature drink, cash bar and an inside look at the impact Girl Scouting is making right here in Macon County.

Nearly 160 local girls are currently part of 12 Girl Scout troops throughout Decatur and Macon County. From building confidence and strong values to making sure financial circumstances never stand in the way of participation, Girl Scouting is helping prepare the next generation of leaders.

Lead Like a Girl is free and open to the public. Come celebrate an extraordinary woman, connect with local Girl Scouts and discover how you can help girls lead, grow and make their mark.
