August 4, 2025 -The Decatur Sister Cities Committee held a special dedication ceremony Monday to unveil a newly installed sculpture that celebrates Decatur’s Sister Cities.
The new sculpture, located in Central Park in Downtown Decatur, near the Transfer House on the northeast corner, was created by local artist Darren Miller.
The sculture is said to reflect the spirit of cultural exchange, friendship, and shared history between Decatur, Tokorozawa (toko-ruh-ZAH-WAH), Japan and Seevetal (SEE-vuh-TALL), Germany. Six high school students visiting from Tokorozawa, Japan were in attendance for the unveiling.
“This sculpture stands as a symbol of the long-standing partnerships and goodwill that have been nurtured over decades,” said Kathy Sorensen of the Decatur Sister Cities Committee. “We hope this piece will serve as a meaningful reminder of our global connections for generations to come.”
The program is partially sponsored by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council Agency, and the Decatur Area Arts Council.
