August 10, 2026 – Decatur Public Schools District 61 has announced that Eisenhower High School will not field a varsity football team for the 2026 season due to low participation numbers and concerns for student safety.
District officials said the decision was made after evaluating the number of student-athletes available for the varsity program. While the varsity season has been canceled, the junior varsity football team will continue as scheduled, allowing students to participate and continue developing within the program.
The school has notified the Illinois High School Association, scheduled opponents, student-athletes, families and coaching staff of the decision.
