October 18, 2026 – The NAACP Decatur IL Branch will host a free family-friendly political forum Saturday, October 24, ahead of the November 3 election.

The event, organized by the branch’s Political Action Committee, will run from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Decatur Indoor Sports Center, located at 1295 West Wood Street.

Candidates for local, state and federal offices are expected to participate, including State Senator Doris Turner and challenger Frank Lesko, who are running for Illinois Senate District 48. Macon County Clerk candidate Bryan Smith and Jeff Wilson, a candidate for Illinois’ 13th Congressional District, are also listed among the participants.

Organizers say the forum will give residents an opportunity to meet candidates, ask questions and gather information ahead of the election.

The event will also feature food, bounce houses and local vendors. Admission is free, and residents of all ages are invited to attend.

The NAACP says it is a nonpartisan organization and that participation in the forum does not constitute an endorsement of any candidate or political party.
