October 20, 2026 – University of Illinois Extension and Decatur Memorial Hospital are offering a free educational class in November to help people manage diabetes and learn about current treatment and nutrition guidance.

“Diabetes in a Modern World” will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, in Classroom C at Decatur Memorial Hospital, 2300 North Edward Street.

The class will cover food choices that support blood sugar management, current trends in foods, drinks and supplements, and modern diabetes care technologies. Participants also can learn about local support services, ask questions of diabetes professionals and sample a diabetes-friendly recipe.

Food and Nutrition Educator Caitlin Mellendorf says diabetes management tools and services have changed significantly in recent decades, and the class will explore current approaches to care.

The class is free, but advance registration is requested by November 3 at go.illinois.edu/DMHdiabetes.

For accessibility accommodations, contact University of Illinois Extension at 217-877-6042. Early requests are encouraged.
