February 21, 2022 – Students of St. Teresa High School have been collecting donations for Special Olympics Illinois Region I to win a chance to dunk a teacher!
Mr. Podeschi, St. Teresa’s English/Literature Teacher, will brave the Dunk Tank this year all part of a fundraiser for the Special Olympics Illinois Region I Law Enforcement Polar Plunge. The students have been bringing in their donations and the amounts will be tabulated and tallied by class (Freshman, Sophmore, Junior & Senior) and on Tuesday, February 22 at 1 pm, 20 students will do the honors of attempting to dunk Mr. Podeschi outside in the frigid winter temps all to benefit- the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois Region I.
Mr. Podeschi was chosen by a popular student vote from an all faculty ballot. So far a total of $1,451.43 has been raised and will be split among the students who would like to plunge at the Lake and represent the St. Teresa- Chilly Dawgs Polar Plunge team going into the water at Lake Decatur on March 5th at Noon. The students who have raised the money will be attempting 2 throws to try to dunk the teacher outside in the middle of winter… #BEBOLDGETCOLD!! All for a good cause.
The event will raise awareness about Special Olympics Illinois and will bring the students together in a friendly challenge that will not only benefit the Decatur/Macon County Community but is also a fun activity the whole school can engage in. There is still time to register for the 2022 Polar Plunge by signing up as an individual or a part of a team at HERE.
A minimum of $100 in donations is required to plunge and receive the coveted Polar Plunge Hoodie. There are also incentive prizes for the $250, $500 and $1,000 level.
