Millikin University Choirs present Celtic Salute March 10

Mar 3, 2022 | 1:08 PM

March 3, 2022 – From ancient chants to pub songs, the Millikin University Choirs will present a rollicking concert of old and new Celtic music on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 7 p.m. in Albert Taylor Theatre, located on the 2nd floor of Shilling Hall, on Millikin University’s campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

This year’s Celtic Salute concert will include the Millikin Men’s Choir, Millikin Bass Choir, the University Choir as well as Broken Brogue, a locally based Irish band featuring Dr. Neal Smith, associate professor of music and chair of Music Education at Millikin University.

The concert will feature a mix of choral pieces of Irish music, pub songs and folks songs that small groups and soloists have prepared, as well as instrumentals played by Broken Brogue.

Fifty-five voices strong, the Millikin Men’s Choir sings a broad variety of repertoire. Whether before a crowd of 70,000 for the national anthem at a Chicago Bears game, before an audience of conductors at the IL-MEA Conference or in front of an audience of high school choristers at the annual Millikin Vocal Festival, the Millikin Men are a favorite wherever they perform.

The flagship of the Millikin choral fleet, the University Choir features 43 upper-class students from a variety of majors. Membership in the choir places high demands on students who travel extensively throughout the United States representing the university in a variety of settings. In recent years, the choir has also toured internationally to Spain, Ireland, Scotland, England, China, Taiwan, Haiti, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
