March 15, 2022 – Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 99 will be hosting a community outreach, March 19 at 1:00 pm in the VFW post 99 banquet room, located at 3920 N Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., Decatur, Illinois. The outreach will help provide the community information that could help prevent further suicides within our veteran communities.
The Danville Veterans Administration, The Macon County Veterans Assistance Commission, The Department of Illinois Veterans of Foreign Wars Service Office, Post 99 VFW Auxiliary and The Water Street Mission will be presenting and answering questions.
The Veteran Administration statistics confirm that 17 veterans a day succumb to suicide, equalling 6205 each year, and Post 99 is doing its part to make a difference.
The VFW Post 99 will be presenting various pieces of information regarding veteran benefits, gun safety, and more. The public is encouraged to participate in this informative event. Kevin Lockhart, VFW member and organizer, explains, “We all know a veteran, whether family or friend, and I believe this educational information will be valuable in understanding how to respond and prevent suicides moving forward.”
A snack will be provided afterward. For more information please contact the VFW post 99 at VFWpost99@gmail.com.
