March 17, 2022 – The Good Samaritan Inn served up Irish Stew today for its first Office Lunch of the year, with proceeds feeding hungry children and families 365 days a year. Offices could purchase meals for $10 each for pick-up or delivery. The menu featured both beef and vegetarian Irish stew in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.
The Community Foundation of Macon County also honored first responders with 100 lunches delivered by their Young Leaders in Action program.
“It feels great to give back to the first responders because they give back to us every single day, so they deserve this and I’m very happy to be involved in something that gives back to them,” said Morgan Perkins, YLIA member. “I’m just grateful to see all these people in here working so hard making meals for people who give so much to the community.”
While this is the first year for this stand-alone office lunch event, it started off as part of their Empty Bowl Event, and the event has typically been a dinner. When COVID hit in 2020, they did meals-to-go and the event has been popular ever since.
“We’ve got an awesome team of volunteers that have been here since 9 am. They have been dipping, packing boxes, and working hard. I would like to recognize our staff and our head chef, Rachel Wear, she is just amazing and her food is awesome. We just love getting her food out into the community to show how well we’re doing. We take pride in not just feeding people, but also feeding them healthy, nutritious, delicious food.” said Nicky Besser, Executive Director of the Good Samaritan Inn.
If you missed out this time there is another lunch scheduled for October 6th, 2022.
