June 1, 2022 – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) issued public recommendations regarding wild birds and the EA H5N1 strain of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) impacting some wild and domestic bird species in mid-April. Today, the IDNR lifted their recommendation to remove all bird feeders from homes, meaning those who desire may now place bird feeders and anything of the sort back outside.
Along with bird feeders, the warning was placed on bird baths which have also been deemed safe.
