October 1, 2020 – The Illinois Department of Agriculture has announced the availability of $5 million in business recovery funding for livestock producers as well as small meat and poultry farms that have suffered interruptions due to the pandemic.  During the past six months, meat and poultry plants in the United States have seen a slowdown of processing livestock from reduced sales and it has caused them to incur additional costs.  “Illinois remains a leading agricultural state in the nation, and I’m proud to help farmers build on that success by providing needed grants to help offset the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Governor JB Pritzker.  “On behalf of all Illinoisans, I want to offer my appreciation to the members of our agricultural community whose hard work has ensured food was available amidst the worst pandemic of our lifetimes.”

The new opportunity for funding is a part of Illinois’ Business Interruption Grants program.  Online applications are now available through the end of October.
