June 8, 2021 – The State of Illinois will enter Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois plan and the Macon County Crisis Communication team held a press conference to mark the end of many of the restrictions that residents have become accustomed to since March of last year. Under Phase 5, capacity limitations are lifted, normal recreation can resume, and large events and festivals can take place. The Crisis Communication Team stressed that while the limitations will be lifted, it is still important for Macon County to increase the number of residents who have been vaccinated for COVID-19. Currently, only around 35% of residents have received the COVID-19 vaccine according to the IDPH. In addition, officials said that though mask mandates in the City of Decatur have been lifted, there are places where masks are still required such as both DMH and HSHS St. Marys Hospital.
