March 25, 2020 – Macon County Clerk Josh Tanner says the 2018 Macon County Sheriff’s race recount has been postponed until further notice. In a statement, Tanner said that all parties have agreed that given the current circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 emergency, it is prudent to wait until the situation improves. The timing of the recount will be reviewed on a regular basis and when all parties have agreed a date will be announced. Brown was elected as Macon County Sheriff in the 2018 Election by a single vote. Root began discovery recount in December of 2018 and alleged that two votes in Hickory Point Township Precinct 7 and another two in Hickory Point Township Precinct 1 should have counted in his favor. Brown had filed 5 motions to dismiss the claims, but those motions were denied.
